Title
BPS leader, Rabbi Msitshana
Subject
African Independent Churches in Soweto
Description
Rabbi V J Msitshana, leader of the Black Philadelphia Synagogue (12) 2084 Dube Central. This congregation does not appear in Martin West, Bishop s & Prophets in a Black City, as I had little information. Rabbi Msitshana by his account had passed through several denominations until he founded a Christian independent church, which concentrated increasingly on the Old Testament, and at a later date decided that he and his followers would adopt the Jewish faith. He said that he had received instruction from a rabbi in Bloemfontein. He was reticent about supplying any information about his congregation. (Plan to lodge a file in the library)
